SOS Schools: Yantai-Fushan Secondary School
Yantai is an attractive and relatively prosperous coastal town in the northern province of Shandong. This region has a moderate monsoon climate. The SOS Children's Village is situated in the district of Fushan. With a capacity of more than 3,000 students, SOS School Yantai is the largest SOS School in the world. It enjoys the status of a model school in China. It was officially opened in 1993. The gym of the school was finished three years later.The school consists of 47 classes, of which 19 are junior classes and 28 are senior ones. The total number of the students attending classes is over 3000 now.There are 239 teachers and staff in the school, of whom over 80 are associate professors or lecturers. The school covers approximately and area of 95,333 square meters. It is made up of 15 buildings, of which there is a gymnasium training building about 1,500 square meters, where lots of contests are successfully held.
The school makes it an objective to be an internationally-noted Chinese famous school. With the guiding principle of "Making the students talented, the parents relieved and the society satisfied, and upholding a favorable school spirit". First, the school consistently puts the ideological education in the first place. Aiming at making the students have perfect characters, we persist in emphasizing on the patriotism and love education; and offering love and devotion, in order to optimize the educational environment. Secondly, teaching is treated as the central task. While carrying out education, we are devoting ourselves to the improvement of the teaching quality and level. Each term, two foreign experts are invited to teach in the school.
